Thank you for being a Weather Underground photographer!
We include a "Manipulated Images" option in our categories. This allows members to share with the community that a technique was used to achieve the look seen in the photo. It also will display in a search for manipulated images if the member selects that category when uploading the image.
We consider a photo to be manipulated if image editing techniques or special lenses are used in order to create an illusion or deception. Basic photo enhancement or correction is not considered manipulated.
That being said, we allow most forms of manipulated photos (HDR, stitched, framed, etc) on our site, and many can even be nominated for an Approver's Choice award. We do have some restrictions which we will define below.
Photos Manipulated Beyond Recognition
If we can no longer tell exactly what we are looking at or if the image is even an outdoor shot, it will be rejected. This is because the focus of WunderPhotos is weather and outdoors and we strive to retain this focus.
Animated GIFs
Animated GIFs that are a composite of a weather or astronomy event taken within a 24 hour time-frame are allowed in the current galleries and eligible for AC nominations. Animated GIFs that were taken over multiple days (such as images taken over several seasons) will be accepted, but filed directly into the Image Archive files.
Photo Postcards & Informational Images
What we refer to as "photo postcards", or images that are given the appearance of greeting cards, posters, or postcards, are acceptable on the website but will be filed directly into the Image Archive. You may post them to your blog or send them to your friends via our messaging system, but they will not be shown in the Current galleries.
Photos with text, as well as photos with markings and/or text that are informational (such as charts, radar images, etc) will also be filed directly into the Image Archive. Feel free to use them in your blogs.
Images that include text such as a photographer's copyright or website URL will still be allowed in the Current galleries, but the copyright must be in a corner and cannot block the center of the image.
Borders and Framing
We prefer that photos are uploaded without any framing or borders, however, we will allow images with small indiscreet borders into the main galleries. Anything considered too prominent by the approving moderator will be sent directly to the archives.
Digital Art
At this time, we are still rejecting digital art submissions. This includes images which are edited to the point of content alteration, such as fake fog, photo collages, etc. In the future, we may make a place for this type of altered image on our site, but currently they are not allowed.
