Logo and Branding Guidlines
The central element of a corporate identity is a logo. The Weather Underground logo presents a balance between creative excitement and comfortable, trustworthy reliability. Because the Weather Underground logo is by far the most often seen expression of our brand, it is crucial to follow these usage guidelines.
General Specifications
These guidelines apply to all Weather Underground logos found on this page with exceptions noted in the individual logo entries below.
Usage
Please see individual logo variations below for all acceptable combinations of layout and color.
Permissions
Other companies cannot use the Weather Underground brand—in print, multimedia, or on a Web site—without the express written permission of Weather Underground. Permission to use the brand can be obtained by sending e-mail to alans@wunderground.com or chuck@wunderground.com. In general, permission to use the Weather Underground brand is granted only to companies with whom we have a direct business relationship.
Trademark Information
Proper trademarks and credit lines must be used with Weather Underground corporate logos. Weather Underground is a registered trademark of Weather Underground, Inc both in the United States and internationally. The Weather Underground logo is a trademark of Weather Underground, Inc.
Fonts
Both the title Weather Underground and the web address wunderground.com are set in Futara. The fonts used in the logo may not be changed. The title must have the initial W and U capitalized, and the web address must be completely in lower-case letters.
In situations where Futara is not available, the acceptable substitute font is as follows:
Arial Black with tracking set to -25, vertical scale set to 100%, and horizontal scale set to 75% for the company name. Arial with tracking set to 10, vertical scale set to 50%, and horizontal scale set to 50% for the web address. Both lines of text are to be set to the same font size and aligned to the left.
Font color may be only one of two, full black or full white - depending on background color alone.
Color Logo
The color scheme of product identity elements is dependent upon their background color. Use these guidelines for different background color situations.
On White or Other Light Backgrounds
For the square or 'full' logo, the company name must stretch from the left-most edge of the cloud to the right-most edge of the rainbow. For the banner or 'horizontal' logo, the top edge of the company name must be in line with the top edge of the rainbow, and the bottom edge of the web address must be in line with the bottom edge of the rainbow (the lower curve of the 'g' may hang beneath this line).
On Black or Other Dark Backgrounds
Same as above, the Weather Underground logo on a black or dark background must adhere to precisely the same layout rules, save the font color is now white.
Black & White Logo
The black & white versions of the Weather Underground logos are to be used for one-color print jobs only (including fax).
On Light Colored Backgrounds
The logo, the company name, and the web address are all pure black (0,0,0,100), and only the logo artwork has a pure white (0,0,0,0) stroke with a weight of 1pt. The banner or 'horizontal' version is laid out exactly like the horizontal versions above, but adhere to the black fill and white stroke rules just mentioned. No variations are permitted.
On Dark Colored Backgrounds
The logo, the company name, and the web address are all pure white (0,0,0,0), and only the logo artwork has a pure black (0,0,0,100) stroke with a weight of 1pt. The banner or 'horizontal' version is laid out exactly like the horizontal versions above, but adhere to the white fill and black stroke rules just mentioned. No variations are permitted.
Text Logo With No Artwork
This version is allowable only if space is limited and there is no room for the artwork, and so long as this version obeys the font guidelines as listed above. No variations are permitted.

On Dark Colored Backgrounds
Print Specifications
Size
If resizing is necessary, the logo must be scaled in direct proportion to the original, and all words must be legible.
Colors
The Weather Underground corporate logos are black, and white. The rainbow colors radiate outward from blue, to yellow, to red, and the only acceptable rendering of this color gradient is as represented here. No variations are permitted.
Not Permitted
Weather Underground does not permit any modification to the Weather Underground logo and/or icon apart from what is listed on this page.
Color Modification
Weather Underground does not permit the recoloring of the Weather Underground logo and/or icon. If the color version provided does not meet your needs, then the black and white version will. If the black and white version provided doesn't meet your needs, likewise, the color version will.
Color Modification 2
Weather Underground does not permit alternating between colors. If the Weather Underground company name is black, so must the Weather Underground web address on the next like be black.
Color Modification 3
Weather Underground does not permit the recoloring of the Weather Underground company name and/or the recoloring of the Weather Underground web address. Only black or white is permitted while adhering to the rules stated above.
Logo Alterations
Weather Underground does not permit the reworking or redesigning of the Weather Underground company logo in any fashion. For example, the cloud may not be flipped horizontally, it may not hover over the right side of the rainbow, and there myst be, at all times, three stripes representing raindrops beneath the cloud.
Effects
Weather Underground does not permit the addtion of effects to the Weather Underground logo. Rotations, glows, drop-shadows, warping, and any other stylistic effect may not be applied to any part of, or all of, the Weather Underground logo and/or icon.
